SCP 2008

LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL 2008
MYTHS & LEGENDS

‘SCP consistently recognises and nurtures new design talent, celebrating the individual, the radical and the imaginative.’

During the London Design Festival 2008 SCP East played host to two exhibitions of contemporary design that came together under the title “Myths and Legends”.

The Ground Floor
SCP presented the UK launch of the Konstantin Grcic “Myto” cantilever chair. Produced by the Italian manufacturer Plank, the chair was launched earlier this year at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan to widespread critical acclaim. The Myto chair is manufactured in an advanced engineering plastic developed by BASF that uses eco efficient injection moulding. Konstantin Grcic is a designer who has created a language all his own and this instantly recognisable chair has been praised for its engineering prowess and gravity defying form.

The First Floor
SCP designer and all round textile legend Donna Wilson presents a range of new designs that include furniture, blankets, and cushions. The past two years have seen Wilson take on more serious furniture design briefs, working with both SCP and Case. Here she will show new versions of her Motley stool, Hue sofa and Tree Hug bench. The exhibition will also include Wilson’s hugely popular odd objects and creatures.

THE SCP STORY

Initially celebrated for its pioneering spirit, modernist values and fastidious approach to design, SCP has gone on to become a highly respected British manufacturer with an international reputation for excellence. A quintessentially British company forged in the entrepreneurial heyday of the mid-1980’s, SCP stands for originality, quality and longevity.

SCP has spent the last two decades creating an expansive collection of beautiful contemporary furniture. They have also provided a platform for young designers to blossom, many of whom have gone on to become internationally renowned talents in their own right. They carefully created and nurtured relationships with innovative and able trading partners, allowing them to set the industry standard in both quality and value.

SCP promotes natural longevity, in design, process and spirit. They have always endeavoured to create things that will last, where possible using sustainable materials. SCP advocates the design of products that people will want to keep, encouraging both product care and use.

SCP, details that count.
